Nuet x Mayice — Before the Light
During Madrid Design Week, as part of the FORMA program and in the context of ARCO, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Mayice Studio on the exhibition Before the Light.
The exhibition offers a leisurely look at one of the most essential moments in design: the prototype. That first territory where ideas are not yet finalized and where design meets the material directly. A place of trial, adjustment, and discovery.
Far from understanding it solely as a preliminary step to industrial production, Before the Light champions the prototype as an autonomous piece, loaded with research, time, and material thought. In many cases, these pieces—mostly crafted with dedication—already contain the essence of the object that will come later.
In this context, some of the pieces presented evolve into lamps, born from a process of material experimentation developed together with Marta and Imanol – Mayice – in our factory in Andorra (Teruel). Prototypes that explore the possibilities of extruded stoneware, the same material and process we use to manufacture our lattices.
Working with light from a material originally designed for architecture opens up new interpretations: the density, resistance, and formal possibilities of extruded stoneware, its texture, and its constructive honesty interact with lighting to generate objects that lie between architecture, matter, and atmosphere.
For us, the fact that Mayice chose Nuet for its exhibition has been a privilege and a way to return to that initial moment of the project: the moment when design is still about searching, intuition, and experimentation.
This dialogue continues. Our next project together will be Casa Decor 2026, where we will continue to explore new possibilities for matter and light.
Before the final light of the produced object, there is always that first gesture.
An open process, where matter is investigated without prejudice and design is yet to be discovered. The moment when you realized that it´s not all written yet.
